Day 10: Mastering the STAR Method for Behavioral Interviews
Series: How to Crack a Job Interview – Day 10 of 21
“Tell me about a time when…”
This is a behavioral question — designed to check how you’ve handled real situations in the past.
The best way to answer? Use the STAR Method:
⭐ What is STAR?
S – Situation: Set the context.
T – Task: What was the goal or problem?
A – Action: What exactly did you do?
R – Result: What was the outcome? Use numbers if possible.
🧠 Example Question:
“Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult teammate.”
Sample STAR Answer:
S: In my final year project at college, our group of four had one member who consistently missed deadlines.
T: I was the team lead and responsible for ensuring we submitted on time.
A: I spoke to him privately, understood his issues, redistributed tasks temporarily, and scheduled daily 10-minute check-ins.
R: We finished the project two days ahead of deadline and got the highest grade in class. The professor even cited our teamwork as a model example.
🎤 Pro Tips:
Always focus on your actions, not what “we” did as a team.
Keep your answers structured and to the point (2 minutes max).
Quantify the result whenever possible — % improvements, timelines, awards, etc.
🛠️ Practice Today:
Pick 3 common behavioral questions (e.g., handling conflict, meeting deadlines, showing leadership).
Write STAR answers for each.
Practice aloud with a timer.
